Scott Sinclair shares footage of fan racially abusing him during Scottish League Cup final

“Absolute disgrace.”

Celtic’s Scott Sinclair has hit out at a fan who aimed a racial slur at him during Celtic’s Scottish League Cup final win over Aberdeen on Sunday.

His side leading 1-0, Sinclair saw a controversially awarded penalty saved by Joe Lewis early in the second half of the game. In footage of the penalty, seemingly taken from the part of  Hampden Park where the Aberdeen fans were gathered, one fan can be heard calling him a “f*****g black b*****d”.

The 29-year-old shared the footage on his Twitter account on Thursday evening, branding the individual responsible ‘an absolute disgrace’.

‘Just seen the video from Sunday’s game,’ the tweet reads. ‘Absolute disgrace for the ignorance of the uneducated fan shouting racial abuse.’

Prior to Sinclair’s tweet, Show Racism The Red Card Scotland had condemned the abuse in the footage.

‘Show Racism the Red Card Scotland are saddened to see a video that allegedly shows an Aberdeen FC fan racially abuse Celtic’s Scott Sinclair just before he takes a penalty at the weekend’s League Cup Final at Hampden Park,’ they said  in a statement.

‘There is no place for racism in Scotland or Scottish Football and we encourage anyone who witnesses racism or experiences racism to tell a steward or call Police Scotland on 101.
