Giggsy didn’t know what to make of it all.
The Manchester United legend got his career in the dug-out off to a great start when his exciting, new look Wales team ripped Ireland a new one over in Cardiff.
Martin O’Neill’s Ireland were absolutely hapless and the men of Wales lined them up and took pride in taking them out. In the end, it was a comfortable 4-1 for the Welsh, an embarrassing defeat for us.
Things couldn’t be going much worse for Irish football at the moment and you’d have to wonder why a lad like Declan Rice would want to play with Ireland right now. From rows in the camp between players and management to the level of football we’re producing, Irish football is in a sorry state and all Martin O’Neill can do is blame the players and in effect, tell the fans to deal with it.
It’s not a happy camp at the moment and it hasn’t been for some time.
In his post-match press conference, the Derry native spoke of the need for our players to be calm on the ball. From the outside looking in, they couldn’t be much further from that.
“We have to be more positive. Be stronger on the ball, deal with it. When it comes into you, don’t start panicking, play. Try and get on the half-turn, to get ourselves going forward,” he said.
“We’ve got to… I think the players have got to have the confidence… and just deal with it. Deal with it.
“If you’re dealing with the ball, then you’ve got a better chance of making the correct decisions on the field. And I’ve been saying it for some time, so, we’re trying to improve on that there.
Aside from the game itself, one incident that had plenty of fans talking was Giggs’ reaction to O’Neill’s handshake on the final whistle.
The Welsh man walked away slowly with a bemused look on his face, before turning around, mystified to the world and apparently looking back towards the Ireland manager with something amiss.

Question to Ryan Giggs: Did you have a word with Roy Keane at the end there?
